Priyanka Chopra: ‘Chemistry with Shahid Kapoor is really good’

Priyanka Chopra has described her on-screen chemistry with Shahid Kapoor as “really good”.

Speaking at a press conference in London, Chopra said she hoped audiences would like them in Teri Meri Kahaani.

“Chemistry? That’s for you to decide,” she said. “I think it looks really good. Shahid’s a really good co-actor and more than that he’s a really good actor I think. You can give him any part and he plays that really well.

“It’s a love story. We’ve not done one before. Kaminey was an action movie where we had only eight scenes together. This is a whole film. So I’m hoping that people will really like us in the movie.”

Directed by Kunal Kohli, the film is played out in three different time periods – 1910, 1960 and 2012. The 27-year-old actress explained the premise behind the movie, saying: “Teri Meri Kahaani is about how in Indian mythology we believe that janam ka janam ka saath hota hai (we are together for many lifetimes).

“We believe in soulmates. We believe that when we get married we are made for each other and we are made for each other in very many, many different lives. This is a story of two people who meet in many different lives, as different people, and have different love stories.

The Fashion star said she identified most with the 2012 character.

“Well of course I identified with 2012 the most because it’s the most like me, but I also really enjoyed playing the 1910 character. My character’s name is Aradhana and she’s this full Punjabi phatakari. She’s kind of feisty and she’s really fun.

“In 1960 I play this girl called Rukhsar and she’s this Lucknow, very well brought up, very well-spoken kind of movie actress. So they all three are so different from each other. I think what I enjoyed most in each character is creating the disparities between the three.

“I think all the characters have been written so differently by Kunal that it made it easy for us to play them differently. On paper they were different anyway. So whether it was Shahid or me as actors, it was really fun for us to play those parts.”

The actors, who have been on an intensive promotional tour, will be taking part in a meet-and-greet with fans at Chak 89 in Mitcham, following the film’s premiere at Cineworld, Feltham on June 21.
