Actress Priyanka Chopra counts her role of Peshwa Bajirao’s first wife Kashibai in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Bajirao Mastani” as one of her career-defining outings.

Though a supporting character in the love story of Bajirao and Mastani, Kashibai has got the 33-year-old actress praise from fans, critics and her colleagues.

“I did not expect this kind of response for my role of Kashibai. It has become like milestone. (My) roles in ‘Aitraaz’,’Fashion’, ‘Mary Kom’, ‘Barfi’ and now Kashibai in ‘Bajirao Mastani’ will be remembered by people,” Priyanka said.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan sent her a hand-written note, praising her performance in the period drama, which stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in lead roles.

“We all have got compliments from Mr Bachchan. Whenever he sees best performances he sends hand written note. My mother collects them as she is a huge fan of Mr Bachchan. She can’t talk when she stands in front of him,” the actress said.

“She judges my performances over Mr Bachchan’s notes. Over the years it has become a tradition. I told him, ‘If you don’t send me a letter every time my mother will think I have performed badly’.”

The “Quantico” actress, however, added that she did not want to “harp” on the praise she received from Bachchan.

“I don’t like taking names. I don’t want to harp up on it. It’s a personal thing. Besides him, there are lot of people including those who haven’t been in touch for long time have praised my work. It’s been wonderful to see the unanimous kind of love and adulation that I have got for ‘Bajirao Mastani’.”

After creating frenzy on social media yesterday, the latest news to emerge about Priyanka Chopra is that she will be conferred with the honorary title of Assistant Commissioner of Police by the newly elected Bihar Government for her outstanding portrayal of a police officer in the trailer of the upcoming movie Jai Gangaajal.

This announcement was made late last night by the new Minister for Health and son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav. It came as a surprise as the police force is under the Home Ministry which is handled directly by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. In his announcement, Tej Pratap Yadav said, “It is with great honor that we would like to give the title of Asst. Commissioner to Priyanka Chopra. Unfortunately, this is the highest title that a state government can offer. If it was in my hands I would have made her the Inspector General but the Indian Civil Services does not allow it. My father also agrees with the decision and has supported my demand to the Bihar government”.

On further questioning as to why this call was taken, Tej Pratap responded by saying, “Did you not see the trailer of Jai Gangaajal on Facebook? What a performance! If we have more police officers like this in our force, it will inspire both female and male officers to perform as well”. The RJD supporters welcomed this decision and had already started celebrations marking this historic and innovative decision by the newly elected government.

RJD leader and kingmaker Lalu Prasad Yadav was elated by the announcement and went on to clarify that this was not one of a kind decision and it has its precedents. He gave the example of Kapil Dev for his contribution to cricket and Malayalam actor Mohanlal for his roles as an army officer in 2 films who were awarded the rank of Lt. Colonel. He also mentioned that Sachin Tendulkar also received the rank of Group Captain. Lalu Prasad, however, emphasized that this will be the first time a police rank is conferred based on the performance in a trailer of a movie, “My sons are innovative and will keep coming up with such wonderful initiatives as they have not been influenced by Indian education”.

On a parting note, Tej Pratap was asked if he felt that all female officers should be ruthless in taking down corrupt politicians like Priyanka Chopra does in the trailer. He looked confused and then replied, “No. I just want them to look as hot as her.”

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was not available for comment. Priyanka Chopra replied to our question via SMS by saying, “is [sic] this a joke???”

Priyanka Chopra’s mother Madhu is beaming with joy as her actress daughter is receiving accolades for her performance as ‘Kashibai’ in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. Madhu called her 33-year-old daughter’s work in the period romance beautiful, and said she is happy that the Mary Kom star is working with good directors.

“I am such a proud mother. She has performed very beautifully. She is very versatile. She was always talented and now she has got directors who are giving her good work like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Prakash Jha,” Madhu told reporters here at the 11th Guild Awards. Priyanka will be next seen in Jha’s Jai Gangaajal.

Madhu added that the whole credit for Bajirao Mastani goes to Bhansali as it was his vision. “It’s all Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s vision. The entire credit goes to him. Priyanka has fleshed out a beautiful character from the role,” Madhu said.

Bajirao Mastani also starred Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles.

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra was snapped at the trailer launch of the next movie, ‘Jai Gangaajal’. Priyanka, once again, will be seen as a brave police officer fighting for justice. Director Prakash Jha, music composers Salim and Sulaiman Merchant and singer Sukhwinder Singer were also present at the trailer launch.

At the trailer launch, Priyanka Chopra looked ravishing in cut-out asymmetrical Victoria Beckham dress from the pre Spring/Summer ready-to-wear collection. The actress was styled by Ami Patel. Priyanka Chopra and director-actor Prakash Jha interacted with media and gave insights on the movie. Here are the few things the team of ‘Jai Gangaajal’ said at the press meet:

Priyanka Chopra opened up about an incident that happened during ‘Anjaana Anjaani’. She said “During Anjaana Anjaani time, a fan came up to me, grabbed my hand and asked for a picture. I slapped that person. Since that day I am scared of slapping people even in the movies.”

When asked about working on stunts and action in both the movie and her international series ‘Quantico’, Priyanka Chopra said “It is because of Jai Gangaajal’s training, working on Quantico was easy.”

Priyanka Chopra gave insights on her character Aabha Mathur. She said “We had 9 and half hours meeting session where I understood the character of Aabha. One thing that is different between me and Aabha is how to be feminine. Aabha is very greatful, classic and feminine. I grew up in UP and Aabha is educated girl from today’s generation. So, the role was easy to play.”

Prakash Jha and Priyanka Chopra also opened up on working with each other at the trailer launch. On Priyanka’s ‘Quantico’ success, Prakash said “We gave Aabha Mathur training in Bhopal and she is making us proud in Quantico.” He also added “Priyanka filmed for this movie in the little time she got between Quantico and Bajirao Mastani. She used train daily for this role.”

Priyanka and Prakash, later, joked around on who is the senior actor in the film. Priyanka Chopra said “You are a debut artist in acting. I am your senior.” To this Prakash replied “I had decided that everyday when I came on set I would touch Priyanka’s feet and she is senior so I’ll learn acting from her.”

Directed by Prakash Jha, ‘Jai Gangaajal’ is set to release on March 4, 2016.

Priyanka looks fierce as F as a tough cop in Jai GangaaJal and we seriously can’t get over it….

Bollywood’s number one crossover artiste Priyanka Chopra has just floored us with her powerhouse performance as Kashibai in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani and is here to dazzle us again with her tough cop act in Jai Gangaajal. We loved her in the trailer and she looks totally cool and badass in this one, there’s no denying in that.

Priyanka who is busy shuttling between America and India came all dressed up in a body-hugging red body-con dress for the event and man, she looked STUNNING! She was at her candid best. She said she was tired but looked as fresh as a daisy. Here is what unfolded in the event held today. Read on.

#On working with Prakash Jha as the director
This is my quickest film. I never expected Prakash Jha to be what he is on the sets. We finished eight shots in one day and efficiently completed the film before the schedule.

Prakash ji is totally different to the image portrayed. He is funny and a riot on the sets. It is amazing how he plans his films. We worked for eight hours a day, yet managed to complete the film so quickly.

I like him as my director more than my co-star. It is fun to work with him as my co-star because I get a chance to pull his leg.

#On choosing to do Jai Gangaajal
I knew that Prakash sir wanted to cast me in the film about 4 to 5 years ago but we never seemed to get time to talk about it. My secretary finally told me that we have to set up a meeting with Prakash ji. I called him up and he was like I know you don’t have time so why do we meet in the first place? I convinced him that we will work something out. After a rough narration of about 15 minutes, I told him that only I can pull off this character of Abha Mathur and aap toh abhi phas gaye!

#On her character of Abha Mathur, the tough cop
What I liked about the character was that she is tough, yet in touch with her feminine side. She is powerful and strong, yet she is graceful and celebrates womanhood. It is interesting to portray such a character.

#On being tough in the real life too
I m quite a fighter in the real life too. On one occasion, I was shooting for Anjaana Anjaani in the town and there were hordes of fans. Usually I am good with taking pictures but this one fan held my hand and wouldn’t let go. I lost it and slapped him hard across his face. I later realized what I did and fled from the scene.

#On looking hotter than the KHANS in the police uniform!
Quitte expectantly, PC was posed with the question who does she like better in the vardi, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan? She pondered for a moment and quipped, mere samne kisika chance nai hai.

#On playing Kashi in Bajirao Mastani
I have mot seen Bajirao Mastani, forget Dilwale! So I have no clue about the context in which I getting compliments and I admit it is quite stupid on my part! I got AmitJi (Amitabh Bachchan’s) hand written note praising me and it feels good but I am highly surprised for I never expected to be lauded for this role quite honestly!

#On the Nirbhaya issue
I feel sad and unfortunate learning about the gorberment’s verdict but I am a law abiding citizen and hence would comply. But hte issue is not child versus woman but much deeper like why would any man, child or otherwise, would want to rape a woman.

Priyanka Chopra, who left everyone spellbound with her path breaking performance as Kashibai in the recent release ‘Bajirao Mastani’, will now be as a powerful cop in ‘Jai Gangaajal’. The film also marks the acting debut of director Prakash Jha. Priyanka Chopra launched the trailer along with the entire cast and crew today.

Priyanka Chopra plays Abha Mathur who is a senior SP in Bankepur talks about her biggest challenge to play the role. She said, “I am brought up in Lucknow and Bareily and an educated girl. Abha is from Bankepur, UP and she is a modern girl as well so to play Abha was easy but the challenge was to be feminine while playing a tough cop at the same time.”

Priyanka who is winning accolades for her power packed FBI agent in Hollywood television show ‘Quantico’ feels that ‘Jai Gangaajal’ helped her a lot in playing a cop. She revealed, “It is because of ‘Jai Gangaajal’ I could play my role in Quantico.” “Abha Mathur was trained in Bhopal which is why she is doing wonders in Quantico”, adds Prakash Jha.

Actress also reveals that ‘Jai Gangaajal’ was her quickest shot film ever, “This film was my quickest film. The total time we had shot is even less than shooting an entire film”, she laughs. ‘I shot the film whenever I got the time between ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Quantico’, she adds.

The film also marks the acting debut of director Prakash Jha who is playing a cop too. At the trailer launch, Priyanka funnily said, “I am a senior artist than Prakash Jha in the film.” Priyanka is seen doing high-octane action in the trailer. When asked about her experience, she said, “I did a lot of work out to become really strong for the role of Abha Mathur.” Unlike her film, she confessed that she has slapped a guy during her shoot of ‘Anjaana Anjaani’, “Ya I got a chance to slap. I was shooting for Anjaana Anjaani in Mumbai and one guy came and held my hand forcefully to click a picture and soon after I felt guilty of doing so and ran away from there but I just can’t abuse.”

When quizzed Priyanka about the hottest cop on screen among Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, she shrugged and said, “Hang on! I look the best in the cop uniform.” When asked piggy chops about watching ‘Dillwale’, she said, “It such an embarrassing thing that I haven’t seen my own film ‘Bajirao Mastani’ till now. My phone is jammed with calls and messages from all over. Mr. Amitabh Bachchan has sent his wishes via letter written in Hindi. My aunt read out the letter to me and had also sent me its picture.”

Many actresses might shy away from calling themselves feminists, but Priyanka Chopra has no qualms in admitting that she is an absolute believer in feminism.

The 33-year-old actress said feminism is not an anti-male concept and, in fact, is about a conversation about gender equality.

“I am an extremely proud feminist. I am someone who believes feminism is just a conversation about equality. It is not about hating or berating men. For eons, women have been treated as second class citizens and it’s high time we are given the due credit,” Priyanka told reporters here at the trailer launch of her upcoming film “Jai Gangaajal”.

The actress said the movie is an attempt to blur the lines between a man and a woman.

The actress, a former Miss Universe, was asked about her reaction on the recent goof up at the fianle of coveted pageant, where the host named Miss Colombia the next Miss Universe instead of the real winner, Miss Philippines.

“It is so bad. If that would have happened with me, I would’ve… I feel so sorry for Miss Columbia,” Priyanka said.

She is being praised for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Bajirao Mastani” but the actress revealed she was yet to watch the film.

“I haven’t even watched Bajirao Mastani by the way. I haven’t watched any film… The whole world is calling me and talking about Kashibai but I don’t know how I’ve worked in the film.

The trailer of Jai Gangaajal is out, and it unveils the multi-talented Priyanka Chopra as a rowdy cop striving against corruption and other crimes.

The super brilliant Prakash Jha will be performing as an all-rounder as the story of the film is written by him and further he’ll be directing and co-producing the film with Milind Dabke. Here it should also be mentioned that Mr. Jha previously handled around all the film departments of the film Gangaajal as he performed as director, producer, editor, story writer and even Dialogue writer of the film. And with his superb blend the film left huge impact over the audience and was a super hit on the board.

The trailer of Jha’s latest venture shows the skilful Priyanka in the lead role as a lonely warrior against all the evils of society. After watching the trailer, it would’ne be wrong to call Priyanka possessed film as it has no more bigwigs in the cast. Although, the story is brilliant and in a view it also hints about women’s empowerment and strength that how they can play the crucial part against the negatives of society.

PC will be starring as a tough cop name SP Abha Mathur and will be seen singlehandedly be seen overcoming the politically disguised criminals.

The film will be releasing 4th March 2016
